Translate a PDF online and keep the layout

Choose a PDF with selectable text, pick the language pair and get a PDF where the translation sits in the same lines and boxes as the original. Everything happens in this browser tab, the file is not sent anywhere.

How it works

  1. Choose a PDF

Pick a PDF from your computer or phone, or drop it on the tool. The PDF needs selectable text: a scan or a photo of a page has no text layer to translate.

  2. Pick the languages

Choose the direction and press Translate. If your browser has its own built-in translator for the pair, the tool uses it. Otherwise it asks before downloading a language model of 20-31 MB, once.

  3. Check and download

The first page of the result appears next to the button. Look it over, then download the translated PDF. It is machine translation, so check names, numbers and terms that matter.

What stays in place and what changes

The tool does not rebuild the page. It keeps the original PDF as it is, covers each translated line with the background color taken from the page and writes the translation into the same box. Pictures, lines, table borders and page size are not touched.

What happens to each part of the page
Part of the pageResult
Pictures, logos, table borders, page sizeUnchanged, they are part of the original page
Paragraphs and table cellsTranslated as a whole and wrapped into the same box
Type sizeShrinks when the translation is longer, never below 6 pt
FontNoto Sans regular and bold in place of the original font
Text and background colorTaken from the page around each line
Numbers, dates, emails, web addressesLeft as they are
Scans and photos of pagesNot translated: there is no text to read in the browser

Which translator does the work

Two translators can run in the browser without sending the text anywhere. Chrome on a computer has a built-in translator: when it supports the pair, the tool uses it and Chrome downloads its own language package. In every other browser, including Safari on a phone, the tool runs Bergamot, the open translation engine from Mozilla, with a language model downloaded from this site. The result screen names the translator that was used.

Our test on October 30, 2026, on a laptop with the model already downloaded: a one-page letter took about 3 seconds, a three-page contract about 7 seconds and a ten-page two-column paper about one minute, in Chrome and in the Safari engine. A phone is slower, and we have not timed it on a real phone yet.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and written by this browser tab on your device. The only things downloaded are the tool itself and, if needed, the language model.

Why is the translated text smaller in some places?

Spanish and Russian often run longer than English. The tool keeps the original box and makes the type smaller until the text fits, down to 6 pt.

Why does my scan not work?

A scan is a picture of a page with no text inside. The browser tool has no text recognition. The Twinpage app translates scans in As original mode (Pro).

How much does it download?

A language model of 20-31 MB for each direction, once, after you agree. The next time the browser takes it from its own storage. Chrome with a built-in translator downloads its own package instead.

Is the result a certified translation?

No. It is machine translation. For papers that carry legal weight, ask the receiving office what it accepts.

Same document in a new language

Choose a PDF or .docx file, pick one of 20 languages and get the page back with its tables and columns. Translation runs on your phone.
